Role Overview
The Performance Engineering team is expanding, looking for skilled C++ engineers passionate about enhancing distributed systems’ performance. This remote position allows working from anywhere ClickHouse hires.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and improve performance of ClickHouse core database components including query optimization, distributed query processing, relational operators such as joins and aggregation, caching, and low-level optimization techniques like SIMD instructions.
- Maintain and extend performance testing infrastructure to prevent regression, using both real-world and synthetic datasets.
- Assist Support Engineering in diagnosing and resolving complex performance issues raised by customers.
- Collaborate closely with other core teams to evaluate how new features affect performance and advise on testing strategies.
- Engage actively with the open-source community by addressing issues, reviewing and completing pull requests, and participating in discussions through various channels.
Candidate Profile
- Proven professional experience in software development using C++ and familiarity with Unix systems.
- Deep understanding of database internals and architecture.
- Background in performance engineering, preferably in database systems or related fields like high-frequency trading, simulation, or real-time data processing.
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering teams.
- Experience working with open-source communities including thorough, patient code review and fostering teamwork.
- Strong analytical mindset with solid debugging capabilities in production environments.
- Commitment to efficiency, system availability, scalability, and data governance.
- Thrives in a fast-moving start-up culture with high accountability and ownership.
