Job description
Position Overview
The Cook I role involves preparing specialty meals and substitution dishes, regulating kitchen equipment temperatures such as ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters, and ensuring proper food thawing by transferring items from freezer to refrigerator. Responsibilities include portion control, food arrangement and garnishing, maintaining food preparation logs, monitoring food quality and quantity, and communicating needs during peak periods.
The incumbent is expected to notify the Chef about surplus ingredients for daily specials and inform Food & Beverage staff regarding menu specials and unavailable items. All food is to be prepared according to established recipes, quality, presentation standards, and checklists, including cold food preparation.
Additional Duties
The role supports management with hiring, training, scheduling, employee evaluations, counseling, disciplinary actions, motivation, and coaching, serving as a behavioral model. Adherence to all company safety and security protocols is mandatory, including incident reporting, maintenance requests, and completion of safety training and certifications. Presentation-wise, maintaining a clean, professional uniform and appearance is essential. Handling confidential and proprietary information securely and protecting company assets are required duties.
Interpersonal skills include clear and professional communication, anticipating guest service needs, fostering positive work relationships, teamwork, and responding effectively to employee concerns. Physical requirements include extended periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, twisting, reaching above and below the knees, lifting or moving objects up to 25 pounds unaided.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical, trade, or vocational education background.
- Minimum of three years of relevant culinary experience.
- No supervisory experience required.
- No specific licenses or certifications needed.
