Job description
Position Summary
The Cook II role involves preparing ingredients including portioning, chopping, and proper storage. Responsibilities include washing and peeling fruits and vegetables, weighing, measuring, and mixing components. The cook is responsible for preparing and cooking food following recipes, quality and presentation standards, as well as food preparation checklists. Tasks also include preparing cold foods and operating kitchen equipment such as ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers. Food testing for doneness and monitoring food quality throughout preparation are essential duties.
Additional duties include setting up and breaking down the workstation, serving food in correct portions, cleaning and sanitizing kitchen areas, tools, knives, and equipment. The cook must verify appliance and food temperatures regularly.
Safety and Conduct
All employees must follow company safety and security policies, report any maintenance needs, accidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions to management, and complete necessary safety trainings and certifications. Maintaining a clean, professional appearance and confidentiality of company information is mandatory. Communication with co-workers must be clear and professional, fostering positive team relationships and responding appropriately to concerns. Employees support common team goals and uphold strict quality standards.
Physical Requirements
The position requires standing, sitting, or walking for extended periods. Physical movements include reaching overhead and below knees, bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. The cook may need to move, lift, carry, push, pull, or place objects weighing up to 25 pounds independently.
Additional Job Duties
Other reasonable tasks may be assigned by supervisors as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum education: High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
- At least 1 year of experience in a related culinary role
- No supervisory experience required
- No specific licenses or certifications necessary
