Job Overview
The Cook I role is based in Kigali, Rwanda, at Four Points by Sheraton, part of Marriott International. This full-time, non-management position requires preparing special dishes or substitutions, regulating cooking equipment temperatures, and ensuring proper food thawing. The role demands strict control over portion sizes, food presentation, and record-keeping. Quality and quantity of food prepared must be regularly monitored and communicated effectively within the team and management.
Key Duties
- Prepare meals according to recipes and quality standards, including cold dishes.
- Operate and control ovens, grills, and roasters to maintain appropriate temperatures.
- Manage thawing of frozen foods in refrigerators.
- Maintain accurate food logs and monitor food quality and quantities.
- Report excess food products to the kitchen head for daily specials.
- Communicate with Food and Beverage service staff about rejected products and menu specials.
- Assist management with hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, coaching, disciplining, motivating, and training staff by setting an example.
- Follow all safety and company policies, report accidents or unsafe conditions, and participate in safety training.
- Maintain a clean and professional personal appearance and safeguard confidential and company property.
- Anticipate guest service needs and respond promptly and clearly in professional communication.
- Develop positive working relationships and support teamwork to meet common goals.
- Adhere to quality expectations and standards consistently.
- Perform physical tasks such as prolonged standing, bending, twisting, lifting up to 25 pounds, and other reasonable duties assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
- Technical, vocational, or trade school diploma is required.
- A minimum of three years’ relevant work experience is necessary.
- Prior supervisory experience is not required.
- No licenses or certifications are mandatory.
