Job description

Overview

We are seeking a Contracts Manager to oversee water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the South West region. This permanent position involves leading multidisciplinary teams including civil, mechanical, electrical and process engineers to successfully deliver complex projects from design through to commissioning and handover.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple projects simultaneously within a one-team environment, fostering collaboration and inclusive team culture.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all Health, Safety, Environmental and Sustainability protocols on-site and promote a proactive safety mindset.
  • Collaborate effectively with clients, client representatives, and third-party agencies, serving as the primary contractor contact to establish trust and confidence.
  • Oversee coordination with PSDP and act as PSCS on-site, maintaining up-to-date safety documentation.
  • Implement industry-leading programme management practices such as Lean Construction and Last Planner to monitor progress and mitigate risks.
  • Manage project budgets, cash flow, procurement of supplies and subcontracts timely and within financial parameters.
  • Lead recruitment, mentoring, and professional development initiatives within the team, contributing to building high-performing groups.
  • Provide oversight and guidance on tendering processes and present project performance updates when necessary.
  • Address client concerns promptly, obtain feedback through satisfaction surveys, and drive continuous improvement through lessons learned.
  • Stay current with evolving standards and technologies via ongoing professional development.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 8 years' relevant experience, ideally in water and wastewater sector contract management.
  • In-depth understanding of Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013; Holding a Managing Safely certificate for construction managers is preferred.
  • Experience with mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control, and automation (MEICA) systems integration during design and commissioning phases is advantageous.
  • Possession of a Level 8 Honours Degree in an engineering field and ideally Chartered Engineer status with membership of the Institute of Engineers Ireland.
  • Proven ability to lead complex, multidisciplinary construction teams under pressure.
  • Skilled in customer and supplier negotiations, including financial settlements.
  • Proficient in programme management software such as Microsoft Project and Primavera P6 for scheduling and updates.
  • Strong problem-solving aptitude and ability to adapt to project delivery challenges.
  • Advanced competence with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Excellent communication skills and self-motivation.
  • Valid full driving license.
