Job description
Position Overview
The Commis I role involves preparing ingredients for cooking by performing tasks such as portioning, chopping, washing, peeling, weighing, measuring, and mixing food items. This includes handling fresh fruits and vegetables and preparing cold foods according to quality and presentation standards.
Key Duties
- Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers to cook food following recipes and quality checklists.
- Test foods to ensure proper cooking and monitor their quality continuously during preparation.
- Set up and break down workstation efficiently and ensure serving is done in proper portions onto correct dishes.
- Maintain kitchen hygiene by washing and disinfecting kitchen surfaces, tables, tools, knives, and equipment regularly.
- Check and maintain correct appliance and food temperatures for safety standards.
- Comply with all company safety and security procedures, report any maintenance needs or unsafe conditions to management, and complete required safety training.
- Maintain professional appearance and confidentiality of company information at all times.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues and foster positive working relationships to support teamwork and common objectives.
- Adhere strictly to quality expectations and standards set by the company.
- Carry out physical tasks including standing, sitting, or walking throughout shift; bending, twisting, pulling, stooping; moving objects up to 25 pounds unaided; and other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- A minimum of one year of prior work experience in a related kitchen or food preparation role.
- No supervisory experience required.
- No specific licenses or certifications are mandatory.
