Coater Process Engineer

Role Overview

Guardian Industries is looking for a Process Engineer with specialization in Vacuum Coater Processes. This position involves utilizing deep process knowledge to support and propel the organization's commitments to environmental health, safety, and stewardship. Your efforts will be vital in maintaining consistent product quality and enhancing cost-effective manufacturing processes, thereby establishing competitive advantages that drive the company's success.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and refinement of coating processes for existing and new product initiatives.
• Be a core contributor within the global development team, engaging in new thin film technology creation, product launches, process transfers, and ongoing process improvements.
• Manage an operational team with a focus on safety, quality, productivity, and advancing vision.
• Support plant operations through process engineering efforts aimed at elevating quality, performance, and productivity of vacuum coating systems.
• Identify and integrate market-leading practices and innovations to enhance Guardian’s process technology capabilities.
• Expand and deepen technical understanding of products and production process technologies.
• Effectively communicate ideas, plans, and concepts across various levels throughout the region.
• Keep abreast of industry trends, new learnings, and technological advancements to support business strategy progression.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or above in Engineering or a related technical field.
• Experience working with Optical Thin Film technologies and vacuum coating sputtering processes specifically in solar, semiconductor, or architectural coated glass sectors.
• Capability to engage in complex technical challenges by performing root cause analyses and deploying effective corrective measures.
• Proficient with problem-solving frameworks such as 8D, Six Sigma, and Lean methodologies, with a proven record of driving continuous improvement projects.
• Experience in leading and motivating teams to high performance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Practical experience in glass manufacturing environments, including hands-on involvement with coating production lines.
• Knowledge of thin film optical materials and proficiency with characterization techniques like AES, XPS, SEM, TEM, X-Rite color measurement, and XRD.
• Familiarity with optical coating design and analysis software such as TFCalc, Optilayer, Essential Macleod, and Ellipsometer.
• Experience in operating and interpreting data from quality control lab equipment including profilometers, HunterLab spectrophotometers, PerkinElmer instruments, and performing durability testing of chemical and optical coatings.
