Senior Research and Development Scientist

Job Overview

Guardian Industries is expanding its Glass Technology and Development (GTD) expertise in the Middle East and is seeking a Senior Research and Development Scientist or Senior Research Engineer. This position will be located in Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia, or Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, with a focus on innovating new products and technology for architectural glass applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and introduce new thin film technologies and products on a global scale.
• Create comprehensive development plans and coordinate with stakeholders to ensure alignment.
• Lead change management initiatives for new product and technology rollouts.
• Disseminate knowledge and enhance team capabilities.
• Act as the technical authority to support production teams and troubleshoot issues.
• Identify and implement best external practices to improve internal processes.
• Utilize structured development methodologies such as stage gate.
• Deepen technical understanding of product lines and manufacturing processes.
• Communicate plans and ideas effectively to a diverse range of stakeholders.
• Collaborate internationally with cross-functional and multicultural teams.
• Work closely with operations teams to ensure smooth product launches and technology transfers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Materials Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
• Hands-on experience with thin film technology, particularly vacuum sputtering processes.
• Strong background in experimentation procedures and statistical data analysis.
• Previous leadership experience managing scientists or technical staff.

Preferred Skills and Experiences

• Advanced degrees (Master's or PhD) in a relevant field.
• Expertise in specific thin film technologies like magnetron sputtering.
• Knowledge of methods for process improvement targeting stability, quality, yield, and throughput enhancement.
• Experience using coating and characterization tools including Zeiss microscopy, RGA, and plasma systems.
• Familiarity with quality control laboratory equipment and coating testing protocols.
• Competence in failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) for failure analysis and process enhancement.
• Strong problem-solving skills applied to complex technical challenges.
• Understanding of structured frameworks for product and process development.
• Experience with thin film modeling and optical simulation software.
