CNC Machinist

About the Position

We are seeking a skilled CNC Operator (Turner) to become part of our Machine Shop team located in Glenrothes. This role centers on fabricating high-precision subsea and oilfield parts utilizing CNC turning machines. The candidate will oversee the production process from raw materials through to finished goods, ensuring adherence to stringent safety, quality, and productivity standards.

Operating within a specialized manufacturing setting, the machinist will produce vital components for the energy sector, distributed globally. Key Responsibilities

• Operate CNC lathes safely following company policies and health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Produce parts according to engineering schematics and exacting tolerances.
• Set up machines, oversee operations, and optimize processes to meet quality and efficiency benchmarks.
• Interpret engineering blueprints, route cards, and manufacturing instructions.
• Precisely document route times and production data.
• Identify and communicate tooling, machining, or quality issues promptly.
• Assist with root cause analysis and corrective measures for quality problems.
• Take part in daily production briefings and safety meetings.
• Maintain cleanliness and contribute to 5S workplace organization efforts.
• Engage in continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing safety, quality, delivery, and reducing costs.
• Ensure completeness and accuracy of all manufacturing records.
• Provide support for overtime and flexible schedules as business demands.

Mandatory Qualifications and Skills

• Completion of a time-served apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
• Proven experience in operating CNC turning centers.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Comprehensive knowledge of machining techniques, tooling, and workholding methods.
• Strong dedication to quality assurance, workplace safety, and ongoing improvement.
• Competency in computer use, including Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Experience

• Background in oil and gas, subsea, or heavy engineering industries.
• Experience machining large or precision-tight components.
• Familiarity with ring grooves, threads, and BX gauges.
• Knowledge of Fanuc CNC control systems.
• Experience in additional machining processes such as milling or horizontal boring.
