CNC Lathe Programmer / Setter Operator

About the Role

We are representing an established manufacturing company seeking a skilled CNC Lathe Programmer / Setter Operator. This person will be integral to the production of specialist metal components and assembly solutions across various sectors. The role requires managing CNC lathe programming, setup, and operation to align with production schedules while maintaining quality standards and optimizing machine productivity.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, set up, operate, and monitor CNC lathe machinery to achieve production goals according to the build plan.
• Ensure machines operate with minimal downtime and assist with troubleshooting equipment malfunctions.
• Execute job and tooling changes to keep production continuous and effective.
• Perform first-piece and ongoing quality inspections, obtaining necessary approvals as per company procedures.
• Assist with new product introduction by producing prototype and developmental parts.
• Keep accurate and timely production data using the Mietrak Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) system.
• Track tooling inventory levels and request replacements proactively to prevent production delays.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment following 5S principles.
• Coordinate with warehouse and forklift teams to ensure the prompt movement of finished goods.
• Report operational issues, risks, and suggest improvements to the Team Leader.
• Provide support and training to fellow operators, including onboarding new employees.
• Ensure proper machine setup and smooth shift handovers with clear communication.
• Carry out additional reasonable duties within capability as directed by the Team Leader.

Candidate Requirements

• Demonstrated experience programming, setting up, and operating CNC lathes.
• Familiarity with Haas or Dugard VMC machines, particularly those with Fanuc controls, is preferred.
• Possession of an NVQ or City & Guilds qualification in Mechanical Engineering, CNC Programming and Setting, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting technical engineering drawings.
• Skilled in using engineering measuring instruments.
• Forklift certification is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Knowledge of abrasive wheel safety regulations is desirable.

Employment Details and Benefits

• Work schedule involves a rotating shift pattern: 6am-2pm and 2pm-10pm.
• Hourly pay ranges from £17 to £21, depending on experience.
• Membership in the company pension scheme.
• 20 days of annual leave plus bank holidays.
