Job description
Role Overview
The Caretaker plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the Operations Services Department at the Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE). This position requires overseeing daily facility operations, focusing on cleanliness, maintenance, and security, while leading assigned staff members. The Caretaker maintains a safe, sanitary, and appealing environment tailored to the needs of the building's users and reports directly to the Building Management Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise daily operations within the designated facility to uphold high standards of cleanliness and safety.
- Oversee janitorial and maintenance tasks to ensure the building remains in excellent condition.
- Supervise staff assigned to maintenance and cleaning duties, ensuring efficient task completion.
- Implement energy management best practices to support sustainable operations.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent academic credential (such as a Graduated Equivalent Diploma).
- Demonstrate at least two years of custodial experience with HRCE or three years of alternative janitorial experience; a combination totaling three years is also acceptable.
- Be physically capable of lifting up to 50 pounds to execute a broad range of cleaning tasks.
- Have experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, to handle communications.
- Effectively conduct routine and preventive maintenance activities.
- Available to work across all shift schedules, including days, evenings, and nights.
- Familiarity with SAP software is advantageous but not mandatory.
