Job description
Overview
The Custodian role supports the smooth operation of the Halifax Regional Centre for Education's Operations Services Department by ensuring school buildings and facilities are clean, sanitary, and visually appealing. Work is performed professionally and efficiently, adhering to departmental policies and safety standards. This position reports to the Caretaker and receives direction from the Building Management Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of school buildings and associated facilities.
- Perform cleaning and maintenance tasks in a proactive and safe manner consistent with departmental policies.
- Follow directives from the Caretaker and Building Management Supervisor to ensure operational effectiveness.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent certification such as GED.
- Capability to lift up to 50 pounds for janitorial duties.
- Basic proficiency in computer skills.
- Willingness to work various shift schedules, including day, evening, and night shifts.
- Previous janitorial experience is advantageous.
Additional Information
This position is governed by the NSUPE collective agreement. Flexible work hours may be available for less than full-time roles to accommodate individuals holding multiple part-time positions. Employment is conditional upon completion of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector and Child Abuse Registry searches.
