Job Overview
Reporting to the General Manager, the Barista is responsible for various duties essential to operating the Café efficiently, adhering strictly to established service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Primarily operates independently during shifts with occasional support when required.
- Handles Café machinery to prepare coffee, specialty beverages, bottled drinks, and baked or ready-made items.
- Ensures cleanliness of the Café in compliance with local, state, and federal health regulations.
- Performs regular cleaning routines daily and weekly on food contact surfaces, kitchen equipment, utensils, and customer spaces.
- Manages café inventory and merchandising following company policies, maintaining an orderly and neat shopping environment.
- Welcomes customers entering the store and café, delivering excellent customer service throughout all interactions.
- Actively promotes point-of-sale initiatives, company discounts, magazine sales, pre-sale vouchers, and donation programs.
- Balances the cash register at the end of shifts within the limits defined by Loss Prevention policies.
- Provides support to the bookstore operations as needed.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum age requirement of 16 years.
- Must successfully pass all mandated background checks.

- Competence in operating various café equipment including blenders, ovens, and espresso machines.
- Proficiency in computer and cash register use.
Physical and Environmental Demands
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
- Manual dexterity to operate keyboards and telephones repetitively.
- Capacity to lift or assist in lifting items up to 50 pounds.
- Clear verbal and visual communication abilities, with or without assistive devices.
- Capability to perform physical movements such as climbing, bending, stooping, or crouching as required by daily tasks.
