Job Overview

The role involves creating precise designs and drawings for intricate mechanical and electronic assemblies, ensuring they are manufacturable and comply with configuration management protocols.

Core Responsibilities

• Develop detailed design drawings for mechanical and electronic systems.
• Create and refine accurate 3D models and assemblies in SolidWorks, with strong knowledge of tolerance analysis, motion kinematics, and mechanical joint principles.
• Produce interface control drawings (ICDs) aligned with system engineering requirements, and contribute to the design of internal wiring harnesses and electronic unit layouts.
• Utilize expertise in 3D scanning and high-resolution mesh data acquisition for reverse engineering and dimensional verification.
• Process 3D scan data and execute Scan-to-CAD workflows using Geomagic Design X software.
• Prepare assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and detailed manufacturing documentation.
• Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing consistent with ASME Y14.5 and ISO 2768 standards.
• Understand mechanical fits, clearances, interfaces, and requirements for assembly integration.
• Design welded structures and sheet metal assemblies, providing fabrication drawings and welding symbols following ISO 2553 and ISO 13920 standards.
• Possess knowledge of CNC machining techniques like milling, turning, drilling, and precision grinding.
• Support prototype fabrication, trial assembly, physical fitment, and dimensional inspections.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, fabrication, inspection, and engineering teams to solve technical challenges.

Manufacturability Assurance

• Work closely with mechanical and electronic engineering units to ensure designs are manufacturable and compatible with suppliers' capabilities.
• Engage manufacturers to understand their equipment and processes, aligning designs accordingly.
• Apply in-depth knowledge of material properties and surface treatment procedures to guarantee durability and specification compliance.

Configuration Management

• Develop and uphold parts breakdown structures to maintain configuration control.
• Manage engineering change proposals (ECPs) and update designs appropriately.
• Use ERP or related software systems to administer configuration controls and maintain accurate records of parts and documents.

Required Skills and Experience

• Extensive detailing experience, ideally within military or defense industries.
• Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks CAD software.
• Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes and supplier capabilities.
• Familiarity with various metals and surface treatment processes.
• Experience with configuration control and engineering change management practices.
• Skill in developing and interpreting parts breakdown structures and interface drawings.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for effective collaboration with manufacturers and suppliers.
• Knowledge of electronic systems and wiring harness layouts.
• Experience using ERP or comparable systems for configuration management is preferred.
• Technical diploma or degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
• Certification in SolidWorks or similar CAD software is advantageous.
• A minimum of five years' experience in detailed design and drafting within defense or military sectors.
• Strong foundation in manufacturing technologies and materials science.
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, teamwork, customer focus, accountability, and communication skills.
