Business Manager

Overview

Join Thermo Fisher Scientific as a Business Manager at our GMP analytical testing laboratory in Athlone, Ireland, where your efforts directly contribute to improving global health outcomes. This role provides a remote working option with on-site presence required for client visits and some travel involvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the primary contact for technical inquiries between business development, contracts and proposal teams, and laboratory operations.
• Develop detailed work scopes with technical specifications and associated costing for Requests for Proposals (RFPs) within a specified business area.
• Own the operational proposal review process, ensuring timeline adherence when multiple departments are engaged.
• Maintain uniformity in presentation, evaluation, and pricing of contracted work scopes.
• Apply deep knowledge of laboratory capabilities and experience to address asset-specific questions and scope new project requests with guidance.
• Lead or co-lead client meetings to discuss capabilities, best practices, and supplementary services tailored to client programs, either at client sites or CRG locations.
• Guide internal teams towards timely proposal completion, budgeting, and review.
• Participate in Requests for Information (RFIs) for operations.
• Serve as liaison between business development and management concerning new work scopes.
• Report business metrics, customer trends, and technological developments to departmental, site, and corporate leadership.
• Stay informed on all changes or expansions in service offerings and potentially lead capital expenditure (CapEx) initiatives.
• Assist in preparing slide content for departmental and technology-specific presentations.

Educational & Professional Background

• Bachelor's degree preferably in a scientific discipline; degrees in statistics or business are also considered.
• Minimum of six years' experience in a relevant field combined with a strong scientific background.
• Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may meet role requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes

• Proficient with financial systems, reporting dashboards, and other business applications used by Thermo Fisher Scientific.
• Good command of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and analytical tools deployed in the business.
• Understanding of business accounting practices and industry standards.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging professionally with diverse groups including executives and subject matter experts.
• Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks concurrently, and deliver results with minimal supervision.

Working Conditions

• Office environment with a standard Monday to Friday schedule.
• Remote work possible with some on-site requirements for client interactions.
• Travel approximately 10-20%, including potential regional, domestic, and international visits.
