About Warwickshire County Council and the Role
We are seeking a Building Services Supervisor to join our team at our Warwick location. While prior caretaker or security experience is preferred, it is not essential as full training will be provided. The role includes contractual weekend overtime and on-call duty every fourth weekend. A mobile phone will be supplied exclusively for business purposes.
Primary Responsibilities
As part of your duties, you will ensure all buildings are opened and secured on schedule, manage safety using alarm systems, and conduct regular maintenance tasks. You will oversee cleaning and caretaking personnel along with contractors, perform site inspections, manage recycling processes, handle correspondence and emails, carry out porterage, cleaning tasks, order necessary supplies, and complete all required documentation. Additional responsibilities include attending training sessions, collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders, and supporting wider team activities as assigned.
Working Hours and Compensation
This is a full-time position of 38 hours per week, with standard working hours from 11:15 to 20:15 Monday to Friday (13:15 start on Mondays) including a one-hour lunch break taken between 15:00 and 16:00.
Contractual weekend overtime occurs every fourth week as follows:
- Saturday: 6 hours at time and a half (08:00–13:00, 16:00–17:00)
- Sunday: 3 hours at double time (07:00–09:00, 16:00–17:00)
Contractual standby duty (on-call) also occurs every fourth week:
- Monday to Friday nights: 20:15 to 08:00 next morning
- Saturday afternoons and nights: 13:00–16:00 and 17:00–07:00 Sunday morning
- Sunday day and night: 09:00–16:00 and 17:00–08:00 Monday morning
The overall pay package includes:
- Basic salary between £25,583 and £25,989 per annum
- Regular overtime payments: approximately £3,619.98 annually for weekend hours
- Standby duty allowance of £2,780.40 per annum (subject to annual review)
Candidate Requirements
Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, use their own initiative, and operate effectively under pressure. Strong customer service skills, flexibility in task management, and a commitment to supporting broader team objectives are essential. A willingness to take pride in your work and engage in ongoing training is also required.
Additional Employment Conditions
- A valid driving license is mandatory.
- Residence must be close enough to the workplace to respond to emergency call-outs within 20 minutes.
