Building Maintenance Technician

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician experienced in general building upkeep and handyman duties to join our Hard Services team at Canary Wharf. This role is hands-on and involves both planned and urgent maintenance tasks related to the building's fabric and general repairs across a commercial environment. Working hours are typically 8am to 5pm with opportunities for overtime.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled and reactive maintenance and repairs on the building structure.
• Conduct general handyman tasks and remedial work across the property.
• Repair and service doors, locks, handles, hinges, and related fittings.
• Execute minor floor and wall repairs including patching and finishing.
• Carry out painting and decorating as needed.
• Perform basic plumbing repairs such as fixing taps, toilets, and small leaks.
• Undertake simple carpentry and joinery repairs.
• Complete minor tiling, glazing, and ceiling repairs where qualified.
• Ensure all Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPMs) and reactive tasks are completed within agreed timelines.
• Identify specialized repairs and refer them to the appropriate engineering team.
• Maintain safety standards and accurately log all work within digital systems.
• Deliver a professional and client-focused service to building users and customers.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience in general building maintenance, handyman roles, or as a Fabric Technician.
• Strong practical knowledge in general repairs including doors, locks, painting, plumbing, and carpentry.
• Experience in conducting wall and floor repairs along with finishing works.
• Background working within commercial facilities management or building maintenance.
• Solid understanding of Health & Safety regulations and safe work practices.
• Comfortable with electronic tools and handheld devices for managing work orders.
• Good communication skills and customer service orientation.
• Legal right to work in the UK.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

• Relevant trade or building maintenance qualifications.
• CSCS Skilled Card or equivalent certification.
• Basic awareness of ACOP L8 standards.
• Experience with Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programs.
• Skills in tiling, glazing, masonry, or suspended ceiling repairs.
