Job description
Role Summary
The Banquet Captain plays a pivotal role in coordinating banquet service operations, ensuring seamless communication between chefs, stewards, and guests throughout group functions. This position demands meticulous attention to detail in preparing banquet rooms, presenting checks, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
Key Duties and Expectations
- Liaise effectively with culinary teams and support staff to meet service requirements for events.
- Calculate total charges for group functions and manage check presentation and payment dealings with group contacts.
- Prepare banquet rooms, restaurants, and coffee breaks for events, ensuring proper decorative centerpieces are placed on each table.
- Inspect and maintain the impeccable cleanliness and arrangement of china, glassware, and silverware before use.
- Engage with guests to confirm satisfaction and address concerns.
- Arrange tables aligned to event types and uphold established service standards.
- Communicate guest dietary restrictions, allergies, and special meal requests accurately to kitchen staff.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in work areas throughout the day.
- Adhere strictly to company and safety policies, reporting any accidents, injuries, or hazards promptly and completing all required safety training.
- Maintain a professional appearance and uphold confidentiality and asset protection standards.
- Welcome guests warmly according to company protocols and use clear, professional language in communication, including telephone etiquette.
- Foster positive working relationships with team members, support collective goals, and respond constructively to employee feedback.
- Meet physical demands including moving or handling objects up to 25 pounds and standing or walking for extended periods.
- Complete other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum of two years in a related food and beverage service role.
- Supervisory Experience: At least one year managing or supervising staff.
- Licenses/Certifications: None required.
