Backend Engineer for Platform Boosters at Shopware

Team and Role

We are forming a new team responsible for the Shopware Pulse product area, which includes managing subscriptions, payments, and overages related to Shopware services.

As a Backend Engineer, you will be accountable for key service-to-service infrastructures, data pipelines, and APIs supporting both internal processes and merchant-facing functions. This role suits engineers enthusiastic about scalable, distributed systems, API-driven architectures, and cloud-native designs, with an interest in broadening their skill set toward full-stack development.

Location and Work Setup

You will be a fully integrated member of the team regardless of your working location. We seek a Backend Engineer (m/w/d) working remotely from anywhere in Germany or Europe.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and continuously enhance Go-based gRPC services, covering OAuth flows, integrations, and caching techniques.
• Develop and maintain service backends using TypeScript/Node.js (e.g., with Hono), including internal and merchant APIs, background workers, and scheduled jobs.
• Architect contract-first APIs (Protobuf/OpenAPI), implementing versioning strategies and secure rollouts across multiple consumer services.
• Ensure data reliability and consistency utilizing Redis caching, MySQL persistence, and asynchronous job queues (e.g., SQS).
• Implement security patterns and multi-tenant access controls, including M2M authentication, signed query parameters, and internal authentication systems.
• Build and advance observability and resilience systems, such as structured logging, metrics, tracing, retry mechanisms, and backpressure strategies.
• Collaborate closely with platform and infrastructure teams to optimize AWS-based deployments (ECS, Terraform, CI/CD, secret management).

Qualifications and Experience

• Over 5 years of backend development experience with Go and/or TypeScript (Node.js).
• Strong proficiency with AI-assisted coding tools like Cursor, Claude Code, and Antigravity, including well-defined quality assurance processes for code generation.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, APIs (gRPC/REST), and inter-service integrations.
• Practical experience with relational databases (MySQL) and caching systems (Redis) under high-load production conditions.
• Knowledge of asynchronous processing and job queues such as SQS or similar tools.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS), containerized deployments (Docker, ECS), and infrastructure as code with Terraform.
• Excellent communication skills, a strong sense of ownership, and fluent English language proficiency.
