Role Overview
We are searching for backend developers to create the foundational systems powering BJAK's AI Neobank application. Candidates will be responsible for engineering dependable APIs, workflows, and financial product infrastructure capable of scaling across multiple markets, partners, and millions of users.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop backend services and APIs related to onboarding, account management, payments, cards, transfers, rewards, travel, foreign exchange, KYC, and risk processes.
- Design and maintain robust systems supporting live customer transactions, operational workflows, and upcoming financial products.
- Integrate internal platforms with financial partners, payment providers, AI services, and third-party systems.
- Ensure high standards of backend quality regarding reliability, security, latency, observability, data integrity, and incident management.
- Collaborate closely with product, frontend, mobile, and AI teams to rapidly and securely roll out new features.
- Enhance existing infrastructure by streamlining process flows, eliminating manual tasks, and automating repetitive operations.
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience engineering backend production systems.
- Good knowledge of APIs, databases, authentication and authorization protocols, queues, job processing, event-driven architectures, and integrations.
- Experience creating services that serve real customers or internal teams at scale.
- Strong capabilities in debugging, ensuring reliability, securing systems, and maintaining data integrity.
- Ability to make informed compromises balancing speed, accuracy, scalability, and maintainability.
- Experience in fintech domains such as payments, banking, wallets, KYC, fraud prevention, or risk management highly advantageous but not mandatory if fundamental skills are solid.
Role Unsuitability
- Not suitable for engineers interested only in isolated backend tasks.
- Not a fit for those who disregard security, data consistency, monitoring, or operational risks.
- Unsuitable for developers unable to adapt to rapidly evolving product requirements.
- Not for candidates lacking firsthand experience managing production-scale systems despite discussing scalability.
- Applicants who cannot clearly demonstrate ownership or exaggerate impact will not align with our expectations.
Candidate Expectations
We seek professionals with meaningful technical achievements beyond just company names, reflecting genuine involvement in building, launching, or scaling significant products, platforms, or systems.
Location and Work Model
This position is based in the United Kingdom, requiring a hybrid presence. Candidates are expected to work onsite in our London office at least three days per week.
Communication
English is the primary language across BJAK’s international teams. Strong English communication skills are essential.
