AWS DevOps Engineer for Java-Based Trading Platform

Project Overview

Join the OTC Clearing team tasked with delivering, maintaining, and modernizing the Calypso trading platform for a premier Australian financial market provider. The role involves driving key technology initiatives including Calypso's migration to the cloud, adoption of Aurora PostgreSQL, improved DevOps automation, migration to GitLab SaaS, observability enhancements, and broad platform modernization. The team works in a cross-functional Agile environment alongside Engineering, QA, Product, Business Analysis, and Support.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, operate, and support AWS cloud infrastructure that hosts critical platform components and related services.
• Create and maintain continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines leveraging GitLab SaaS for automated deployments across multiple environments.
• Facilitate transition of workloads from on-premises hardware to AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code via Terraform and configuration scripts through Ansible.
• Automate deployments, database refreshes, environment setups, and support processes for smooth operations.
• Collaborate closely with Engineering, QA, Application Support, Infrastructure, and Architecture teams to improve delivery efficiency and system robustness.
• Support deployments and configurations during migration to Aurora PostgreSQL database solutions.
• Advance observability capabilities using logging, monitoring, alert systems, OpenTelemetry, AWS CloudWatch, and related tools.
• Ensure secure management of secrets, certificates, credentials, and access controls aligned with corporate security policies and tools.
• Manage release readiness, change control, production governance, and incident response activities effectively.
• Diagnose and resolve issues across applications, infrastructure, networking, and deployment platforms in diverse environments.
• Drive adoption of standardized DevOps practices, reusable pipeline architectures, and cloud deployment frameworks within the technology organization.

Essential Qualifications

• Over 9 years of comprehensive experience in DevOps, platform engineering, cloud services, and site reliability engineering supporting cloud infrastructures.
• Proven expertise with AWS services covering compute, containers, storage, IAM, networking, monitoring, secrets management, and database services.
• Hands-on experience crafting DevOps pipelines for top-tier capital markets trading applications such as Calypso, Murex, or FIS.
• Design and administration of CI/CD pipelines using GitLab SaaS for deployment automation and release orchestration.
• Infrastructure as Code proficiency using Terraform complemented by configuration management through Ansible.
• Linux administration skills accompanied by automation scripting in Bash and Python.
• Experience in maintaining critical production environments in compliance-regulated sectors.
• Knowledge of deployment methodologies, change and environment management, and best practices around release governance.
• Ability to establish and manage monitoring, logging, observability, and incident response frameworks.
• Proficient troubleshooting across applications, databases, infrastructure components, and network systems.
• Secure secrets management experience using tools such as HashiCorp Vault.
• Collaborative engagement with multiple teams including Engineering, QA, Operations, Security, and Architecture to align project and operational goals.

Preferred Skills

• Background in migrating databases from Oracle to Aurora PostgreSQL, demonstrating database transition expertise.
• Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration supporting cloud-native deployment patterns.
• Familiarity with observability platforms and tools such as OpenTelemetry, Grafana, ELK stack, and Splunk.
• Knowledge of database automation tools like Liquibase and experience with schema migrations and configuration management.
• Understanding of financial services domains, exchange infrastructure, and regulatory technology environments.
• Experience working with test automation frameworks and quality engineering practices driven by DevOps.
• Understanding of ITIL processes including Incident, Problem, Change, and Release Management.
• Involvement in large scale cloud transformation and platform modernization projects.
