Associate Director - Transport Planning & Mobility

About the Role

WSP Middle East is looking for a seasoned and client-oriented Associate Director to join their Transport Planning & Mobility team based in the UAE. You will spearhead complex transport planning, mobility, and multidisciplinary infrastructure projects throughout the Middle East. This role involves close collaboration with clients, government bodies, developers, and internal teams to contribute towards significant transportation and urban development programs across the region.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership in delivering transport planning and mobility projects across the UAE and greater Middle East.
• Lead and manage assignments including Transport Master Plans, Transport Impact Studies, Traffic Impact Assessments, and Mobility Strategies among others.
• Review and approve technical reports, models, and deliverables ensuring compliance with local regulations, global best practices, and company standards.
• Offer strategic transport planning advice from project inception through to design and approvals.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams on major infrastructure, urban developments, new cities, aviation developments, economic zones, tourism projects, and mobility programs.
• Manage budgets, project schedules, resource allocations, and commercial outcomes acting in roles such as Project Manager or Discipline Lead.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with clients, government authorities, and regulatory bodies by leading stakeholder engagement and advising on mobility policies and planning approvals.
• Support business expansion by identifying new opportunities and contributing to proposals, bids, and strategic planning activities.
• Lead, mentor, and develop junior transport planning professionals nurturing a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.
• Drive innovative mobility solutions promoting sustainable transport, smart and shared mobility, electric vehicle infrastructure, and data-driven planning.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Transport Planning, Civil or Transportation Engineering, Urban Planning, Geography, Architecture, or related disciplines is required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Professional accreditation (e.g., CIHT, TPS, ICE, ITE, RTPI) is desirable.
• 12 to 18 years of relevant professional experience, especially within transport planning and mobility consultancy, including substantial exposure in the UAE and Middle East.
• Proven expertise in leading multidisciplinary transport planning projects, liaising with varied stakeholders, and guiding junior team members.
• Strong knowledge of methodologies concerning transport planning, development, mobility strategy, and policy.
