Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Overview

The Assistant Quantity Surveyor plays a vital role in supporting the commercial and contractual management of construction initiatives. This includes assisting with cost control, procurement, valuations, and contract administration throughout various phases of the project. Collaborating closely with senior commercial personnel, the assistant helps ensure projects remain within financial budgets while fulfilling contractual commitments, from inception through to final account closure. This position specifically contributes to advancing the objectives of the West Suffolk Hospital project by helping maximize project value, manage risks, and maintain accurate commercial documentation.

Key Duties

• Provide support in managing contracts related to suppliers and subcontractors.
• Assist with managing costs, forecasting cash flow, and preparing budget reports for designated work packages.
• Help evaluate compensation claims, change controls, and contractual event assessments.
• Contribute to preparing and reviewing tender documents, bid submissions, and rate schedules.
• Assist in contractor valuations, payment process management, and finalizing accounts.
• Help with project cost reporting, conducting audits, and contract close-out tasks.
• Review instructions for commercial impact, escalating issues when necessary.
• Support commercial negotiation processes and aid in resolving financial and contractual challenges.

Project-Specific Involvement

• Dedicated to supporting the West Suffolk Hospital project.
• Reports directly to the Commercial Lead.

Required Skills and Expertise

• Comprehensive understanding of commercial management in construction.
• Familiarity with different types of NEC contracts.
• Experience using commercial control IT systems such as CEMAR and Aconex.

Qualifications and Experience

• Relevant experience in commercial management within construction contexts.
• Background in construction projects, including joint venture environments.
• A Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying or a closely related field.
