About The Role

Serving as an Assistant Pastry Chef in a prestigious luxury hotel, you will be responsible for overseeing daily kitchen operations with a focus on high-quality pastry production. You will showcase your culinary skills while managing staff, ensuring adherence to sanitation and food safety standards, and maintaining budgetary controls. This leadership position demands the delivery of consistent, superior products, continuous improvement in guest and staff satisfaction, and active participation in all kitchen activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate kitchen shifts by managing cooks and kitchen staff to meet food and beverage policies, standards, and operational procedures.
  • Forecast daily production needs on an ongoing basis and communicate expectations clearly to the culinary team.
  • Assist the Executive Chef in overall kitchen management and meal preparation tasks.
  • Prepare various food items regularly or for special functions, applying creativity in food design and presentation.
  • Develop new culinary concepts, artistic food displays, and maintain purchasing and storage standards.
  • Ensure full compliance with food handling, hygiene, and sanitation regulations, operating all kitchen equipment properly.
  • Monitor and uphold the quality of raw and cooked food to meet established standards.
  • Foster a positive work environment by modeling appropriate behavior, promoting teamwork, and maintaining staff productivity.
  • Communicate job expectations, recognize performance accomplishments, and provide coaching and mentoring for team development.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service by engaging with guests, addressing feedback and complaints, and empowering team members to exceed customer expectations.
  • Manage labor resources effectively using scheduling systems, plan workloads to meet business demands, and ensure safety training for all employees.
  • Participate in human resource activities such as performance appraisals, development planning, and liaising with HR as needed.
  • Attend relevant meetings and communicate information effectively to all stakeholders.

Candidate Profile & Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED with four years of professional experience in culinary arts, food and beverage, or a related field; OR
  • A two-year degree from an accredited institution in Culinary Arts, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or a similar major complemented by two years of relevant work experience.
