Work Schedule and Environment

This role involves a standard Monday to Friday work schedule. The work environment includes laboratories and clinical settings with potential exposure to electrical office equipment, biological fluids, and sometimes hazardous materials requiring personal protective equipment. Occasional travel to various site locations may be required.

About the Role

As an Assistant Metrologist at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will play a key role in supporting the maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments. Your efforts will ensure the proper functioning and reliability of lab equipment, contributing directly to health outcomes supported by our PPD® Laboratory Services team. This position requires dedication to quality, precision, and collaboration within a team that drives scientific advancements globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment as scheduled.
  • Carry out calibration and qualification processes, including Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Performance Qualification (PQ).
  • Perform remedial maintenance as needed to ensure equipment functionality.
  • Oversee the installation of new laboratory instruments and equipment to specifications.
  • Adhere to vendor guidelines concerning preventative maintenance, calibration, and repairs.
  • Address audit requirements for laboratory instrumentation from internal or external sources.
  • Review laboratory support documentation for SOP compliance, completeness, and accuracy, and report any findings accordingly.

Education and Experience

  • Possess at least a high/secondary school diploma or an equivalent formal vocational qualification.
  • Technical certification may be required depending on the specific role.
  • A minimum of two years' relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience is necessary to perform the job effectively.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with FDA and GXP regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Understanding of laboratory instrumentation and equipment typical within the pharmaceutical or CRO industry.
  • Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities related to laboratory equipment.
  • A client-focused mindset paired with strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective communication capabilities across vendors, clients, and colleagues at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, twisting, bending, and squatting for four to six hours per day.
  • Repetitive hand movements and fine motor skills required for precise manipulation of objects.
  • Physical mobility with occasional crouching, stooping, and lifting moderate weights up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to operate various specialized computer software applications.
  • Capacity to convey and comprehend complex information clearly; interact sensitively with diverse groups.
  • Flexibility to perform varied tasks in a dynamic environment, sometimes under stress and requiring multitasking capabilities.
  • Consistent, regular attendance is essential.
