Assistant Estimator

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Estimator to join a reputable commercial general contractor in the Boston area. This role offers the chance to manage the full estimating process for complex commercial projects, collaborating closely with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to deliver accurate and competitive bids. It is essential to have direct estimating experience within a commercial general contractor setting, as this role involves full lifecycle bid management.

Key Responsibilities

• Support preparation of precise cost estimates for construction projects to facilitate bidding and budgeting.
• Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, and architects to comprehend project requirements and schedules.
• Analyze project designs and specifications in detail to determine comprehensive project costs.
• Use Material Take Off (MTO) expertise to calculate accurate material quantities for projects.
• Regularly perform cost analysis and value engineering to identify cost-saving opportunities and increase efficiency.
• Engage in negotiations with subcontractors and suppliers to secure favorable prices and contract terms.
• Stay informed on market trends and pricing to ensure procurement competitiveness.
• Prepare and deliver thorough reports and estimates to stakeholders including clients, management, and project teams.
• Maintain an up-to-date database of project costs and relevant market information.
• Ensure all estimating activities comply with company policies and standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years’ experience in a construction estimating role within a commercial general contracting company.
• Proven expertise in project bidding, budgeting, value engineering, MTO, negotiation, and cost analysis.
• Strong mathematical aptitude and IT skills, with an emphasis on detail.
• Exceptional communication and negotiation capabilities.
• Thorough understanding of construction processes, materials, and regulatory standards.
• Proficiency with industry-specific software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Capability to work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
• Excellent problem-solving skills paired with sound decision-making ability.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
• Professional certifications in construction estimating or related fields are advantageous.
