Job Overview
The Assistant Director of Human Resources supports the Director in implementing strategies that attract, retain, and develop a diverse group of top talent. This leadership role supervises the daily functions of the HR department, encompassing recruitment, compensation, employee relations, and training initiatives. The position ensures alignment with the Human Resources Business Plan objectives and delivers services that satisfy employee needs and drive organizational success while ensuring adherence to regulatory and procedural standards.
Candidate Profile
- Possession of either a high school diploma or GED with four years of experience in human resources, management operations, or a related field, or
- A two-year degree from an accredited institution in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline with two years of relevant professional experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage recruitment activities by advertising openings effectively to attract a diverse range of candidates, maintaining visibility of job postings internally and externally, and fostering relationships with external recruitment resources including state job services and educational institutions.
- Network with local organizations and peers to identify potential candidates for current and future vacancies.
- Facilitate employee transfers and promotions within departments and across the brand’s properties.
- Oversee selection and offer procedures for hourly roles, ensuring proper documentation and candidate communication.
- Collaborate with managers and recruiters on management-level hiring decisions, job offers, and negotiations in compliance with standard operating procedures.
- Ensure compliance with relevant policies such as sexual harassment, discrimination, and solicitation policies.
- Monitor interview practices, ensuring use of consistent screening criteria and lawful questions only.
- Guarantee wages conform to SOPs and applicable federal and state laws, including provisions for meeting attendance pay, entry-level rates, overtime, and separation pay.
- Administer drug screening and background checks as per brand standards.
- Oversee Workers Compensation claims to ensure employee support and control of costs.
- Educate employees and HR staff about benefits packages and eligibility.
- Empower management teams to communicate employee benefits effectively.
- Maintain necessary resources to administer employee benefits properly.
- Implement hourly employee performance appraisal processes and support managers in addressing employee satisfaction issues with documented corrective plans.
- Coach managers on progressive discipline procedures and ensure development plans with measurable goals are in place.
- Maintain an “open door” policy to resolve employee concerns promptly and ensure active and effective communication channels.
- Analyze workplace accident trends and report findings to management.
- Monitor the work environment for indications of unionization activities.
