Application Architect

Job Summary

This role is responsible for defining, governing, and advancing the enterprise application architecture to ensure it aligns with business capabilities, digital strategies, and desired future-state architectures. It involves guiding modernization, solution design, and managing the application portfolio effectively to enhance business value.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and evolve the application portfolio along with architecture views, reference models, and lifecycle roadmaps.
• Evaluate application suitability, condition, technical liabilities, redundancies, dependency on integrations, and alignment with business functions.
• Create target application architectures, suggest rationalization strategies, and outline transformation roadmaps.
• Examine solution designs and architecture documentation ensuring compliance with enterprise architecture principles and standards.
• Collaborate with solution design, data management, infrastructure, security, and integration teams to develop unified end-to-end designs.
• Map relationships among business processes, capabilities, applications, data, interfaces, and technology components.
• Provide architectural leadership in application modernization, cloud integration, software package selection, and migration projects.
• Participate in architecture governance activities, design reviews, exception handling, and maintain architecture repository quality.

Qualifications and Skills

• Deep knowledge of application architecture frameworks, API-based integrations, service-oriented designs, and application lifecycle management.
• Proficient in TOGAF and ArchiMate frameworks with the ability to develop practical architecture viewpoints.
• Experience analyzing application portfolios, identifying technical debt, assessing application health and fit-for-purpose suitability, and rationalization opportunities.
• Understanding of cloud technologies, security, data, and integration considerations within enterprise-level solutions.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, analytical thinking, documentation, and architectural design validation skills.

Deliverables

• Assessment reports on application portfolio lifecycle and health.
• Documentation of current and desired future application architecture views.
• Development of application reference architecture models, standards, and guiding principles.
• Roadmaps for application rationalization and modernization efforts.
• Traceability matrices linking applications to business capabilities, data, and integrations.

Experience and Education

Must have a minimum of five years practical experience in application architecture, solution architecture, systems analysis/design, or managing application portfolios.

Hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.

TOGAF certification is required or strongly favored. Additional certifications such as ArchiMate, cloud architecture, integration, or ITIL will be beneficial.
