AI Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled AI Engineer to join the AI Centre of Excellence at a progressive financial institution in Abu Dhabi. As a core member of the Agentic Workflow Automation (AWA) team, your responsibilities involve designing, constructing, and testing LangGraph agent graphs, large language model (LLM) extraction pipelines, prompt management systems, and MCP tool integrations. This role aims to develop intelligent automation solutions, initially focusing on Intelligent Document Processing in banking operations, leveraging a dual orchestration stack comprising Orkes Conductor and LangGraph alongside Azure AI Foundry for delivering robust agentic systems in production.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and deploy LangGraph agent graphs facilitating Supervisor-Worker orchestration, self-reflection, actor-critic mechanisms, and Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) interrupt functionalities using TypedDict schemas and conditional routing.
• Develop and upkeep LLM-centric entity extraction workflows utilizing Azure AI Foundry, ensuring structured outputs with confidence scoring per field and robust validation via Pydantic models.
• Manage prompt engineering responsibilities including authoring, versioning, and governance through the AWA Prompt Management System, incorporating semantic versioning and validation via sensitivity and correctness testing.
• Develop and sustain core MCP tool servers, adapting them to meet emerging use case demands.
• Conduct comprehensive multi-level testing encompassing model, prompt, agent, AI security, and adversarial evaluations in line with the AWA Intelligent Document Processing test strategy, maintaining Golden and Regression Datasets.
• Implement HITL interrupt points at both mandatory and dynamic check stages within LangGraph workflows, ensuring proper wait task configuration, state persistence, and checkpoint-based resumption.
• Integrate AI safety measures including Azure AI Content Safety, Personally Identifiable Information (PII) detection and tokenization, prompt injection defenses, and output sanitization into agent pipelines.
• Design and execute cross-field business validation logic within LangGraph validation agent nodes to ensure data integrity.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum of five years experience developing Python applications in live environments.
• Hands-on expertise with LangGraph, LangChain, or similar agentic AI platforms.
• Proficiency in LLM prompt engineering focusing on structured output, few-shot learning designs, and enforcement of output schemas.
• Experience with Azure AI Foundry, OpenAI API, or comparable LLM APIs like Anthropic or Cohere.
• Solid understanding of agent design patterns such as ReAct, self-reflection, tool utilization, and HITL integrations.
• Strong skills in RESTful API development and JSON schema construction.
• Familiarity with Git for version control and knowledge of CI/CD pipeline processes.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Software Engineering, or related disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience working with workflow orchestration tools such as Orkes Conductor, Apache Airflow, or Temporal.
• Knowledge of Azure AI Document Intelligence or alternative optical character recognition platforms.
• Insight into Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures including chunking, vector indexing, and Azure AI Search.
• Competency with Microsoft Azure services like AKS, ADLS Gen2, Azure ML, and Azure Monitor.
• Familiarity with Pydantic, FastAPI frameworks, and/or TypeScript/Node.js environments.
• Possession of a Master's degree or equivalent research or professional experience in the field.
• Relevant Azure certifications such as AI Engineer Associate or Developer Associate.
• A strong intellectual curiosity about the mechanisms and failure modes of AI systems.
