Agitator & Mixing Vessel Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Role

Palomba General Trading LLC is seeking a dedicated Mechanical Design Engineer specialized in agitators and mixing vessels to lead technically challenging industrial process equipment projects throughout Qatar and the GCC region. The engineer will focus on the mechanical design and evaluation of agitators, mixing vessels, shafts, impellers, seals, bearings, and associated rotating machinery used extensively in food, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, chemical, cosmetic, and specialty ingredient industries. The role demands a high level of technical acumen, with the ability to engage directly on mechanical design parameters and collaborate with clients, process engineers, and international manufacturers.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze customer requirements for industrial agitation and mixing applications.
• Advise on the selection of agitator types aligned with product and process needs.
• Examine impeller geometry, size, and positioning.
• Review mechanical specifications of shafts including length, diameter, and load capacity.
• Assess torque and power demands of mixing systems.
• Assist in motor and gearbox selection suitable for application requirements.
• Identify critical speed and potential vibration concerns.
• Evaluate shaft deflection and overall mechanical stability.
• Analyze radial and axial load influences, bearing demands, and mechanical seal requirements.
• Study vessel geometry impacts, including tank diameter, liquid height, working volume, and baffle necessity.
• Determine the appropriateness of mixer entry configurations: top, side, or bottom.
• Support mixing system assessments suitable for varying product viscosities.
• Evaluate diverse agitator types such as anchors, turbines, propellers, and high-shear mixers.
• Coordinate technical dialogue with global equipment producers and review mechanical drawings and layouts.
• Provide technical evaluation during design reviews, and troubleshoot mechanical issues including vibration, seals, and shaft movement.
• Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and commissioning processes as needed.

Mechanical Design Parameters

The candidate must be proficient with parameters such as torque, power, rotational speed (RPM), tip speed, shaft dimensions and deflection, critical speed, axial and radial loads, bearing loads, gear ratios, motor power, impeller characteristics, vessel dimensions, liquid properties, and product rheology affecting equipment performance.

Experience with Impeller and Agitator Types

• Propeller agitators (axial-flow)
• Radial-flow turbines and pitched-blade turbines
• Hydrofoil and anchor agitators
• Gate agitators and scraped-wall systems
• High-shear mixers and rotor-stator designs
• Bottom-entry and side-entry agitators

Vessel Design Expertise

• Mixing vessels and process tanks
• Jacketed, vacuum, and pressure vessels
• Internal components such as baffles and nozzles
• Agitator mounting and support structures
• Access and maintenance design considerations

Candidate Profile

We seek an engineer with solid hands-on knowledge in industrial mixing equipment and rotating machinery. Candidates must be adept at analyzing how product properties, vessel design, and mechanical configurations influence mixing efficacy and equipment integrity. Comfort with technical drawings, equipment schematics, and direct technical engagement with OEM engineering teams is essential. Professionals focused mainly on sales, administration, or non-technical roles will not fit this position.

Requirements

• A degree in Mechanical, Process, or Industrial Engineering or closely related technical disciplines.
• At least 3 years of pertinent experience in industrial engineering preferred.
• Practical familiarity with mixers, agitators, and rotating equipment or vessels.
• Understanding of torque, power transmission systems, shafts, bearings, and mechanical seals.
• Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and schematic layouts.
• Knowledge of motors, gearboxes, materials, and fabrication processes is advantageous.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Proficient communication skills in English, both written and oral.

Salary and Benefits

The position is full-time in Doha, Qatar offering a monthly salary range between QAR 13,000 and 20,000 based on qualifications and technical expertise. Performance bonuses may be granted for project success. The role provides exposure to international advanced mixing technology and involvement in complex projects across the GCC.
