Job Overview

The QA/QC Blast Holes (Dipping Hand) is tasked with performing precise quality assurance and control evaluations on drilled and loaded blast holes. This role ensures all blast holes meet design, safety, and operational standards to support safe and effective blasting processes. All activities are executed in line with company policies, regulatory requirements, and standard operating procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Comply fully with applicable health, safety, environmental, financial, and human resource policies and statutory regulations tied to the role.
• Carry out thorough QA/QC inspections on both drilled and loaded blast holes to confirm alignment with established blast design and operational criteria.
• Measure, dip, and meticulously document blast hole depths and conditions prior to loading explosives.
• Detect, mark, and report faulty holes such as those that are collapsed, blocked, under-drilled, or over-drilled, necessitating corrective measures.
• Verify and log stemming heights to ensure adherence to blasting protocols.
• Inspect charged holes for compliance with explosive loading specifications before detonation.
• Ensure appropriate backfilling and documentation for any over-drilled holes following approved guidelines.
• Maintain detailed and accurate QA/QC records, measurements, and inspection reports relevant to blast hole quality assurance.
• Communicate drilling deviations, safety issues, and quality concerns promptly to the QAQC Area Supervisor for resolution.
• Assist blasting and drilling teams to maintain safe, efficient, and productive operations.
• Strictly observe all health, safety, environmental, and quality standards in the blast zone.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12 school certificate or equivalent qualification.
• Possession of a valid ZAQA Certificate.
