Position Overview

Join our team as a Security Officer at AUT campus, providing a safe, professional, and approachable security presence. The role consists of conducting patrols, managing access control, swiftly responding to incidents, and serving as the primary point of contact for students, staff, visitors, and emergency teams. This permanent full-time position involves working varied shifts including days, nights, and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a visible and inviting security presence to deter unauthorized actions and reassure the campus community.
  • Carry out regular foot and vehicle patrols across buildings, grounds, and parking areas, noting hazards and maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Perform access control duties including front desk assistance, ID verification, issuing visitor passes, and key management.
  • Respond efficiently to incidents, alarms, and welfare checks with professionalism, escalating issues to management or emergency services when appropriate.
  • Monitor surveillance systems such as CCTV and alarms, ensuring accurate recording and incident documentation.
  • Prepare clear incident reports, shift handovers, and operational logs to ensure seamless communication across shifts.
  • Maintain overall site safety by identifying hazards, supporting fire and evacuation protocols, and securing doors and access points.
  • Adhere consistently to company policies, privacy regulations, and health and safety guidelines.

Candidate Requirements

  • Possession of a valid New Zealand Certificate of Approval (COA) security license or ability to obtain one.
  • Clean criminal history and capability to successfully complete pre-employment screenings.
  • Previous security experience in campus, corporate, retail, or related environments is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Strong observational abilities, effective communication, and detailed incident reporting skills with calm decisiveness under pressure.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively with sound time management and proactive initiative.
  • Professional demeanor, high integrity, and discretion in managing sensitive information including CCTV footage.
  • Basic proficiency with IT systems, reporting tools, radios, and mobile devices.
  • Dependable, punctual, safety-conscious, and committed to providing excellent customer service.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and eligible to work in New Zealand.
