Position Overview
We are hiring a motivated and experienced Registered Electrician to join our engineering team at the Lorneville Plant in Invercargill, Southland, New Zealand. This full-time, permanent role involves hands-on shift work in a fast-paced industrial setting. The position offers career growth beyond basic electrical tasks, perfect for those eager to develop expertise and long-term career paths within large-scale industrial operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose faults and respond to equipment breakdowns throughout the plant.
- Perform preventative and planned maintenance tasks.
- Operate and maintain PLC-controlled systems, automation technology, and instrumentation.
- Service conveyor systems, VSD-controlled motors, and refrigeration equipment.
- Support vacuum packaging and other electrical systems onsite.
- Assist with plant upgrades and capital projects.
- Manage work orders via a computerized maintenance system.
- Interpret and work according to electrical schematics and technical plans.
- Maintain compliance with New Zealand electrical regulations and site safety standards.
- Collaborate closely with production and engineering teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a recognized electrical trade qualification (minimum NZQF Level 4 or equivalent) with current EWRB registration and valid practicing license.
- Have at least three years of post-qualification experience in industrial, manufacturing, processing, FMCG, or similar maintenance environments.
- Demonstrate strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
- Capable of reading and interpreting engineering and electrical drawings.
- Experience with PLC, SCADA, or related control systems is advantageous.
- Knowledgeable in VSDs, instrumentation, and process control technologies.
- Exhibit strong analytical, communication, time-management, and organizational abilities.
- Show ownership, accountability, and a commitment to health, safety, and ongoing improvement.
- Work effectively independently and collaboratively within teams.
- Willing to work weekends as part of a rotating shift roster.
