About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and organized Yard Operations Team Member to join our North Island Distribution Centre (NIDC). This position focuses on safe and efficient management of CHEP pallets and other reusable assets within the yard area. You'll be fundamental in maintaining smooth distribution centre function by ensuring accurate tracking of pallet movements, maintaining inventory precision, and keeping the yard well maintained. This role involves independent work and cooperation with operational teams to foster safety, efficiency, and ongoing improvements alongside strong housekeeping and asset management.
This role includes hands-on tasks such as operating forklifts, managing pallet inventories, handling documentation, and resolving issues in a dynamic distribution setting.
Work hours are Monday to Friday, from 8:30am to 5:00pm.
Core Responsibilities
- Handle receiving, storing, sorting, and transferring CHEP pallets and other returnable equipment.
- Maintain accurate inventory control of pallets, totes, stillages, cages, and reusable assets.
- Perform frequent stock counts and reconciliations to maintain visibility and reduce losses.
- Operate forklifts and other approved material handling equipment safely to load, unload, move, and stack assets.
- Ensure assets are safely organized and accessible to meet operational demands.
- Monitor asset stock levels to support efficient equipment flow throughout the facility.
- Record all pallet and returnable asset transactions accurately and promptly.
- Complete necessary CHEP documentation and inventory updates without delay.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies with precision.
- Assist with internal audits and inventory checks through meticulous record-keeping and stock reconciliation.
- Collaborate with various business stakeholders to address stock differences and enhance asset tracking.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and contribute actively to a robust safety culture.
- Carry out daily equipment inspections and promptly report any defects, hazards, incidents, or near misses.
- Maintain exceptional cleanliness in the yard area and support 5S methodology initiatives.
- Remove damaged equipment, waste, and hazards to secure an orderly and safe workspace.
- Propose and support improvements for asset usage, pallet movement, storage methods, and overall site efficiency.
- Engage in continuous improvement activities aimed at boosting safety, productivity, and operational performance.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Valid forklift licence and proven competency with approved material handling equipment.
- Previous experience in warehousing, yard operations, logistics, or distribution environments.
- Detail-oriented mindset with experience in inventory management or stock reconciliation.
- Ability to work autonomously and juggle several tasks within a fast-paced setting.
- Strong communication and analytical problem-solving capabilities.
- Basic computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Teams and inventory management software.
- Preferred but not mandatory: experience managing CHEP pallets or returnable assets.
- Understanding of pallet control systems and inventory tracking processes.
- Knowledge of 5S practices, continuous improvement techniques, and warehouse operational excellence.
