About The Position

As a Works General Hand, you will actively contribute to the maintenance and safety of the City of Greater Geraldton’s roads and drainage systems. This role involves physical outdoor work, focusing on tasks like pothole repair and general road upkeep alongside a skilled team under general supervision. You will ensure that all activities comply with relevant legislation, Australian Standards, and City policies, prioritizing safety and quality to achieve tangible results.

Enjoy a unique 9-day fortnight schedule with every alternate Friday off, providing extra personal time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain sealed roads and drainage assets through various maintenance duties.
  • Carry out manual labour tasks such as shovelling, cutting and removing asphalt, filling potholes, and trench restoration.
  • Operate plant machinery like skid steers and loaders safely and competently as required.

Position Requirements

The ideal candidate will be motivated, safety-conscious, and eager to undertake hands-on outdoor work while developing practical skills. Holding an HR class driver's licence and having experience in operating road maintenance equipment is preferred. Knowledge of asphalt works and chip sealing is advantageous.

Applicants with limited experience but strong work ethic and willingness to learn will be supported with training.

All candidates must pass a pre-employment medical, including alcohol and substance testing.

Compensation and Benefits

The starting salary ranges from $79,115 per annum or $40.03 per hour, depending on skills and experience. The City offers up to 21% superannuation including a co-contribution scheme, 22 annual leave days, a health and wellbeing program, career advancement opportunities, study assistance, and a 9-day fortnight work schedule.
