Job description
Overview
This permanent full-time opportunity at the Stuart Waste Facility, operated by Townsville City Council, involves managing residential and commercial waste with a focus on resource recovery and recycling. The facility includes a weighbridge, landfill, transfer station, storage areas, and resource recovery operations. The role requires physical stamina and the ability to work efficiently in a busy environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver respectful and knowledgeable customer service regarding waste management.
- Manage litter and recycling activities including manual picking and erecting litter fences.
- Operate and monitor wastewater pumps and their valves.
- Set up pumps with lay flat hoses and fill water trucks from onsite sources.
- Maintain site signage and enforce safety regulations.
- Supervise public activities at the transfer station when needed.
- Operate heavy vehicles including water trucks and tippers.
- Support the leading hand in ensuring completion of site tasks.
- Maintain storage areas and assist in transporting materials like soil and aggregate around the site.
Qualifications and Experience
- Mandatory HR (Heavy Rigid) vehicle licence and Construction White Card.
- Experience operating water trucks in environments with active plant and heavy vehicle movements.
- Knowledge of water truck and waste disposal equipment operation and basic maintenance.
- Experience in hauling materials such as soil or aggregate.
- Effective verbal and UHF communication skills.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Competency in transferring station maintenance and cleaning.
- Ability to assist customers in maximizing waste diversion.
- Basic computer proficiency to use weighbridge software.
- Previous waste management industry experience is advantageous.
- Additional plant operation tickets (Front End Loader, Bulldozer, Compactor, Excavator) are highly valued.
Additional Information
- Work schedule: 10 day fortnight, 38 hours per week.
- Salary: $33.68 per hour base plus superannuation, with additional overtime and penalty rates applicable.
