About the Role
This permanent full-time position within the Infrastructure and Operations division involves expert responsibilities in crafting and evaluating Traffic Guidance Schemes and Traffic Management plans. The role ensures these schemes are executed in full compliance via on-site audits, safeguarding efficient, consistent, and safe operations for both work teams and the public within the community.
The officer plays a vital part in maintaining workforce safety, minimising delays impacting community project delivery, and contributing to disaster event management preparedness.
Candidate Profile
Candidates should bring a minimum of two years of practical experience in traffic management, hold Traffic Control Level 1 and Level 2 certifications (RIIWHS205D & RIIWHS302D), or be willing to obtain traffic management design qualifications. A current Queensland “C” class manual driver's licence, a Construction Industry General Induction card, and a Construction Industry white card are mandatory. Possessing a First Aid Certificate is advantageous.
The successful applicant must demonstrate strong abilities in interpreting complex legislation, designing policies, procedures, and training materials aligned with best practices. Effective communication and negotiation skills are essential to influence diverse stakeholders, including technical teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies, to promote consistent practices throughout council operations.
Advanced competencies in problem-solving and risk management are critical for making swift decisions and resolving issues promptly, ensuring uninterrupted business functions and optimizing procedural improvements.

Additional Information
The salary range for this role is based on the Local Government Officer Award Levels 3 to 5, with remuneration between $78,412 and $95,030 annually, plus superannuation, tailored to qualifications and experience. The position is based in Townsville, Queensland.
