Job Overview
Leicestershire County Council invites applications for the role of Waste Management Technician based at County Hall, Glenfield, Leicester. This permanent position offers a salary range of £29,550 to £32,055 annually (pro-rata for part-time employees) along with a potential non-contractual retention bonus of £125 monthly upon successful probation completion, subject to eligibility.
Working Hours and Location
The role requires a 37-hour work week, primarily scheduled Monday to Friday with occasional weekend or Bank Holiday shifts. Workdays may start from 7 am and extend up to 6 pm.
Role Responsibilities
- Support the efficient operation of the Recycling and Household Waste Site and Waste Transfer Station services.
- Collaborate with line management to monitor and report waste-related data, financial activities, and duty of care documentation.
- Assist in supervising waste management contracts and procuring auxiliary contracts.
- Use intermediate Microsoft Excel skills and receive training on council-specific weighbridge software.
- Opportunity to be trained for operating the council's mobile plant machinery.
Candidate Requirements
- Possess either a GCSE or equivalent qualification in Maths and English, or a Level 3 qualification such as BTEC National or NVQ3.
- Hold or be willing to obtain WAMITAB CoTC Level 4 certification and Level 3 First Aid at Work - First Response or equivalent.
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with waste management operations, weighbridge procedures at HWRCs and WTSs, and relevant disposal and treatment laws.
- Strong communication skills, numeracy, the ability to engage effectively with customers, self-motivation, teamwork, adaptability, and a tactful yet assertive approach to managing competing demands.
- Commitment to inclusive service delivery consistent with council values and accessibility standards.
- Fluency in English is mandatory per immigration regulations.
