Job description

Overview

Join Transpower New Zealand in Palmerston North as a Warehouse Assistant supporting critical maintenance and project activities that keep the national electricity grid operating smoothly. Work in a unique environment managing essential materials, including high-value infrastructure parts like transformers and heavy machinery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate forklift trucks and manage warehouse inventory with precision and care.
  • Receive, store, and dispatch materials efficiently to service providers for maintenance and project work.
  • Handle stock accurately by maintaining bin locations in the system and assisting with regular stock counts.
  • Perform visual checks on stock quality and prioritize stock usage using FIFO principles.
  • Build custom crates to securely pack large or irregularly shaped items using tools like nail guns and skill saws.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy warehouse environment, both indoors and outdoors, adhering to strict safety protocols.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Experience in warehousing, stock management, logistics, construction, or infrastructure sectors requiring safe handling of equipment and materials.
  • Certified forklift operator with a Forklift Operator's Certificate (OSH) and "F" endorsement on driver's licence for road operation; familiarity with gantry cranes is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards applicable in warehouse operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Excel for communication and documentation.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a manual stock environment dealing with serial and asset numbers.
  • Ability to lift up to 20kg and work physically in varied indoor and outdoor warehouse conditions.

Additional Preferences

  • Experience with inventory management systems, scanning devices, or container devanning considered advantageous.
  • MPI training and accreditation will be provided and are necessary for the role.

The warehouse supports Transpower's Grid Delivery division, ensuring materials are available for essential projects and maintenance nationwide. The work environment includes handling large, heavy, and sometimes awkwardly shaped electrical infrastructure equipment requiring secure crating and strict Health & Safety adherence.
