Job Overview

Nexus Solutions seeks a skilled VFX Artist proficient in Spine 2D to join the Nucleo team. The role involves crafting refined and captivating animations, bringing characters, symbols, features, and wins to life within online slot games. This position demands a keen understanding of motion, timing, and game aesthetics, managing VFX and Spine animation tasks from briefing to clean, production-ready output while collaborating closely with artists, designers, and developers.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and refine Spine 2D animations for characters and symbols.
• Animate backgrounds, user interface elements, and gameplay features.
• Create various animation states including idle, anticipation, win, trigger, celebration, and transitions.
• Establish and sustain well-structured rigs, meshes, weights, and reusable setups.
• Design stylized in-game visual effects such as glows, bursts, trails, and particles.
• Create coin effects, celebrations, and screen accents enhancing game appeal.
• Develop win effects and feature transitions to strengthen game feel.
• Interpret briefs and game mechanics into clear, responsive motion designs.
• Prepare layered art assets, sprites, and animation sequences for production.
• Compile texture atlases and Spine project files for seamless handoff.
• Maintain consistent naming conventions, event triggers, and export organization.
• Optimize animation complexity, loops, and meshes for web and mobile platforms.
• Coordinate motion alignment with game concepts, features, and technical requirements.
• Incorporate feedback efficiently, troubleshoot integration challenges, and deliver production-standard assets.
• Conduct self-review of animation quality, timing, visual consistency, and file hygiene to minimize integration issues and rework.
• Propose enhancements for reusable effects, templates, and workflow processes.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 3 years' experience in 2D game animation and/or game visual effects production.
• Hands-on professional expertise using Spine 2D animation software.
• Equivalent experience with comparable tools like DragonBones or Spriter is acceptable with a capacity to quickly adapt to Spine.
• Proven animation experience with characters, symbols, UI, and gameplay elements.
• Previous work within the gaming industry (specific slot machine experience is not mandatory).
• A strong portfolio or demo reel showcasing Spine and VFX projects; production-ready samples preferred but not required.
• Solid understanding of timing, anticipation, easing, impact effects, secondary motion, and looping animations.
• Working knowledge of rigging, meshes, weights, and asset optimization techniques.
• Ability to produce clean, well-organized assets independently.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in iGaming, online slot games, casino, or feature-rich game environments.
• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and/or After Effects.
• Basic familiarity with game engine integration such as Unity.
• Experience working in fast-paced, multi-project, or international production settings.

Technical and Soft Skills

• Mastery of Spine 2D including rigging, mesh building, weighting, animation states, event management, looping, and export best practices.
• Expertise in 2D animation and stylized game visual effects creation.
• Strong sense of timing, motion fluidity, impact, and visual hierarchy.
• Asset optimization tailored for web and mobile performance.
• Keen attention to detail with the ability to consistently match an existing art style.
• Effective communication skills with an openness to feedback.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills handling multiple concurrent tasks.
