Slot Game Designer

About the Role

Nexus Solutions is seeking an accomplished Slot Game Designer to join our Nucleo team based in Dubai. This role involves owning the entire lifecycle of online slot games, from initial concept creation to final release. The ideal candidate will develop and refine game mechanics, bonus features, rules, and player experiences, transforming innovative ideas into detailed, production-ready designs. Collaboration with development, QA, art, and project management teams is essential to achieve high-quality outputs.

Primary Responsibilities

• Formulate unique slot game concepts featuring clear themes and game mechanics.
• Define reels, symbol types, paylines, and win systems.
• Design features such as wilds, scatters, free spins, multipliers, and cascading reels.
• Develop expanding symbols and hold-and-win mechanics.
• Establish feature triggers, interactions, retriggers, and resolutions.
• Assess concepts for player engagement, technical feasibility, and production scope.
• Create and update detailed Game Design Documents covering mechanics, features, game states, flows, and interactions.
• Prepare diagrams, wireframes, and gameplay scenarios to support development and QA acceptance criteria.
• Communicate design updates clearly across teams and produce player-facing rules and help content.
• Define pacing, presentation, feature reveals, and celebratory animations for gameplay and bonuses.
• Collaborate closely with artists, animators, VFX, audio, UI, and UX teams to ensure thematic consistency and player readability across devices.
• Support developers and QA by clarifying design requirements and reviewing builds to verify mechanics and presentations.
• Manage design change priorities while aligning with project timelines and confirm final game releases adhere to specifications.
• Analyze market trends, perform playtest and post-launch evaluations, and incorporate responsible gaming principles in the design process.

Qualifications & Experience

• 5 to 8 years of professional experience in game design, with significant hands-on involvement in online slot games.
• Demonstrated personal accountability for mechanics, documentation, and implementation decisions.
• Strong understanding of slot mechanics, bonus systems, RTP, volatility, hit frequency, and win distribution.
• Skill in interpreting simulation outputs and collaborating with mathematicians.
• Proven track record of producing detailed, production-ready game design documents and specifications.
• Experience reviewing prototypes with development and QA teams.
• Adept at independent work while fostering cross-functional collaboration.

Preferred Skills

• Background in iGaming, SaaS platforms, or multi-title slot production.
• Academic knowledge in mathematics, statistics, probability, or game economy design.
• Familiarity with spreadsheets, simulation or scripting tools.
• Experience with regulated markets and game analytics, playtesting, or rapid prototyping.

Technical and Personal Competencies

• Expertise in designing slot game core loops, reel and win structures, and bonus mechanics.
• Defining feature interactions and managing edge cases.
• Strong grasp of game mathematics metrics including RTP, volatility, hit frequency, and win distribution.
• Proficiency in creating comprehensive GDDs, gameplay flows, state logic, and defining acceptance criteria.
• Experienced in prototype and build reviews with structured playtesting approaches.
• Comfortable using spreadsheets and various documentation tools.
• Creative, analytical problem-solving with strong attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills across teams.
• Focused ownership, prioritization, and thorough follow-through within project scope.
• Positive, constructive collaboration across multiple functions.
