Utility Locator

Job Overview

As an Underground Utility Locate Technician, you will use specialized locating equipment and utility maps to identify underground cables, pipes, and other infrastructure to help prevent damage and ensure excavation safety. This local role does not require travel.

Compensation and Benefits

The position offers a starting wage of $21 per hour, with automatic increases of $0.50 after 60 days and another $0.50 after 180 days. Key Responsibilities

• Respond to standard and emergency ticket requests by traveling to job sites.
• Use mapping tools and locating equipment to find underground utilities such as electrical cables, gas lines, and communication lines.
• Mark utility locations with paint or flags and communicate critical information to excavation or other relevant personnel.
• Participate in after-hours emergency call rotation if part of your assigned area.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Utility locating or construction experience is preferred but not mandatory.
• Familiarity with outdoor work is an advantage but not required.
• Positive attitude and computer literacy.
• Valid driver’s license for the state of employment.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed beyond normal hours.

Working Conditions

• Monday to Friday full-time schedule, with possible weekend assignments when tasks cannot be completed during normal hours.
• Daily driving ranging typically from 50 to over 200 miles, depending on the designated area.
• Walking and standing on uneven terrain for distances of 4–6 miles.
• Extended periods of sitting while driving.
• Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions throughout the year.
