About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our Workers Compensation team in Sydney or Canberra. This is a permanent, full-time position offering a hybrid working arrangement with some flexibility. The successful candidate will manage a profitable Workers Compensation portfolio by underwriting new business and renewals, maintaining relationships with brokers and intermediaries, and providing expert technical support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite new and renewal Workers Compensation policies within delegated authority levels and underwriting guidelines.
  • Proactively manage a portfolio to meet growth, retention, and profitability objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting standards, processes, and legal requirements.
  • Deliver well-considered, prompt underwriting decisions and solutions.
  • Build and nurture strong partnerships with brokers and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support and collaborate closely with Assistant Underwriters.
  • Participate in service delivery improvements, process enhancements, and innovation activities.
  • Promote a positive and collaborative team culture.

About You

  • Experience in underwriting, preferably in Workers Compensation or casualty insurance lines.
  • Background in insurance sales or wider insurance industry knowledge.
  • Solid understanding of underwriting principles, risk evaluation, and portfolio management.
  • Ability to establish trusted broker and stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, and communication skills.
