Overview
FMG (Farmers Mutual Group) is seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated insurance professional to join their Underwriting Team as a Technical Underwriter. This role focuses on more than risk assessment—it actively contributes to shaping the future of rural, commercial, and corporate insurance across New Zealand (Aotearoa). While FMG has strong ties with farmers and growers, it also supports an expanding range of commercial and corporate clients from diverse industries.
Role Details
In this position, you will deliver expert technical underwriting advice and support high-quality business acceptance. You'll also engage in company-wide projects aimed at improving operational efficiencies and enhancing client services. Working alongside seasoned underwriters, you'll develop customized insurance solutions, including co-insurance arrangements. The role provides exposure to quota share agreements and direct responsibility for managing underwriting capacity and retention. Additionally, you'll handle facultative reinsurance placements internally, offering a comprehensive experience of the insurance process from start to finish.
Candidate Profile
- At least five years of commercial insurance or underwriting experience.
- Possession of ANZIIF or an equivalent certification, or currently progressing towards this qualification.
- Strong understanding of commercial insurance principles, pricing strategies, and market trends.
- Demonstrated ability to build and influence robust internal relationships.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a practical mindset.
- Experience handling various non-consumer insurance lines such as SME, corporate, or specialty sectors is highly advantageous and essential for success in this role.
