About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Traffic Management Operative to join our team in Exeter, responsible for managing traffic control schemes across various projects. The role demands adherence to high Health and Safety standards while maximizing productivity during both day and night shifts, including some weekends. Flexibility and a responsible attitude are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage diverse traffic control methods such as give and take systems, priority traffic, Stop/Go boards, portable traffic signals, convoy working, road and lane closures, and diversions.
- Ensure work is conducted safely, following best practices and established protocols.
- Perform thorough risk assessments and prepare method statements regarding traffic management operations.
- Comply with procedural guidelines and actively identify opportunities for operational improvements, reporting these to management.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections to maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety for drivers and passengers.
- Maintain a professional company image through appropriate attire, conduct, and site upkeep.
- Exhibit initiative by continuously seeking improvements in traffic management processes.
- Assist and guide the public by directing them safely through worksite areas.
- Recognize situations requiring managerial input and act accordingly.
Company Safety Standards (GTM Golden Rules)
- Engage only in traffic management tasks for which you hold the required LANTRA qualifications.
- Ensure all traffic management setups fully comply with relevant legislation and guidelines (e.g., Red Book, Chapter 8, ARTSM).
- Maintain constant vigilance on site compliance and promptly address any safety concerns.
- Report and rectify unsafe practices or conditions when competent and safe to do so.
- Practice safe driving: avoid distractions, adhere to speed limits, and prioritize road safety to prevent collisions.
- Park vehicles considerately, taking into account pedestrians and other road users.
- Wear five-point personal protective equipment (PPE) consistently while on site.
Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum LANTRA 12d accreditation (TTMBC, 12d M1-M2).
- Additional qualifications like LANTRA 12 a/b accreditation, IPV driver certification, or foreman experience are a plus.
- Demonstrated understanding of the distinctions between Chapter 8 and Safety at Street Works and Road Works (Red Book) standards and their practical application.
- Possession of a full valid UK driving licence.
- Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings relevant to assigned tasks.
- Mechanical aptitude related to traffic signal systems is desirable.
Salary and Benefits
Compensation ranges from £12.21 to £15.00 per hour depending on qualifications, with enhanced pay rates for overtime work. A comprehensive benefits package is also available.
