Traffic Management Operative

Role Overview

As an experienced Traffic Management Operative based in St Austell, you will play a vital role in managing traffic control and ensuring smooth project execution across various traffic management schemes. Your contribution will help maximise daily productivity while keeping health and safety standards at the forefront. This position demands adaptability, with working hours that might include days, nights, and occasional weekends. A proactive and responsible work attitude is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage various traffic management methods such as Give and Take, Priority, Stop/Go boards, Portable traffic signals, Convoy working, Road and Lane closures, and diversions.
• Adhere strictly to safe working practices and company best procedures at all times.
• Conduct risk assessments and prepare method statements relating to traffic management tasks.
• Comply with established protocols, identify improvement opportunities, and report findings to management.
• Perform daily safety and cleanliness checks on vehicles, ensuring driver and passenger security.
• Maintain a professional company image through appropriate attire, positive attitude, and site cleanliness.
• Continuously seek ways to enhance work processes and safety.
• Assist members of the public by safely guiding them through site areas as needed.
• Recognize when management involvement is necessary.

Company Safety Standards (GTM Golden Rules)

• Engage only in traffic management activities for which you hold relevant qualifications (LANTRA).
• Ensure all setups comply with current legislation and guidance such as the Red Book, Chapter 8, and ARTSM.
• Regularly inspect sites for compliance and safety.
• Promptly report unsafe conditions and rectify them safely when competent.
• Drive responsibly without distractions, within speed limits, to prevent accidents.
• Park vehicles safely considering the public and road users.
• Wear full five-point PPE on site continuously.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum Lantra 12d accreditation (TTMBC, 12d M1-M2 classifications).
• Additional qualifications such as Lantra 12 a/b, IPV driver certification, or foreman experience are advantageous.
• Proven understanding of differences between Chapter 8 and the Safety at Street Works and Road Works (Red Book) and application thereof.
• Possession of a full valid UK driving licence.
• Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings relevant to assigned works.
• Mechanical aptitude related to Traffic Lights is preferable.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation ranges from £12.71 to £15.00 per hour depending on certifications and experience, with additional enhanced payments applicable for overtime hours. The package includes comprehensive benefits tailored to your qualifications and commitments.
