Role Overview

The Traffic Controller position is a full-time role based on-site in Bakersfield, CA. Responsibilities include setting up, monitoring, and removing traffic control devices such as signage, cones, and barricades to safely direct vehicles and pedestrians around active work zones. The role requires actively guiding road traffic utilizing approved signals, flags, and signage, and making adjustments to traffic patterns as conditions evolve. Communication with field personnel, drivers, and supervisors is essential for reporting hazards, coordinating lane closures, and maintaining safe operations. Daily duties also encompass inspecting equipment, ensuring strict compliance with safety regulations, following project-specific plans, and keeping detailed records of incidents or traffic changes. The role demands outdoor work in diverse weather conditions, prolonged standing, and constant situational awareness.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Proficient skills in managing road traffic and safely directing vehicles and pedestrians within active work zones.
• Experience or knowledge in traffic management including planning and execution of lane closures, detours, and optimizing traffic flow around construction or event locations.
• Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with team members, supervisors, motorists, and the general public in a professional manner.
• Understanding of operations management principles focusing on field logistics, time management, and adherence to safety and project procedures.
• Ability to comply with safety standards, properly utilize personal protective equipment, and demonstrate awareness of state and local traffic control regulations.
• Physical capability to stand, walk, lift, and handle traffic control equipment while working outdoors in varying weather and traffic conditions.
• Relevant certifications in traffic control or flagging preferred, or a willingness to obtain such credentials; possession of a valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation required.
