Job description
Position Overview
The Traffic Control Agent is responsible for establishing and managing traffic patterns to guarantee safety at construction sites. Reporting to the Field Supervisor or Operations Manager, this role involves close collaboration with construction teams to prevent vehicles and pedestrians from endangering workers or impeding their tasks. Certified proficiency in traffic safety procedures is mandatory to perform effectively.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate full competency in all Traffic Control Agent operations.
- Set up, maintain, and dismantle temporary work zones with appropriate signage and cones, strictly following the Work Area Traffic Control Manual (WATCM).
- Handle the loading and unloading of traffic control equipment to and from company vehicles at job sites.
- Complete and submit necessary documentation upon departure from the final job location.
- Consistently wear and upkeep personal protective equipment (PPE) as per company guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of company vehicles and report any safety or mechanical issues to management.
- Coordinate tasks and timing with on-site foremen to ensure smooth operations.
- Verify work start times and job site or meeting place details through the company’s scheduling app.
- Drive company vehicles responsibly when commuting to and from job sites if choosing to use one.
- Thoroughly review and understand company safety manuals and employee handbooks.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Candidate Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and clean driving record preferred; mandatory for employees using a company vehicle for commuting.
- Have a smartphone with internet connectivity to facilitate timekeeping and communication.
- Strong verbal communication abilities.
- Capable of working in diverse weather conditions including heat, cold, and rain.
- Physical stamina to stand throughout entire shifts and perform repetitive hand and arm motions.
- Limited break allowance during shifts.
- Ability to lift weights up to 50 pounds.
- Physical capability to conduct all flagging activities safely.
- Dependable personal transportation to and from job locations; driving personal vehicles or voluntary carpools with colleagues is common and encouraged.
- Successful completion of the Traffic Control Agent certification course and any other company-required training.
Additional Information
Non-compliance with position guidelines may result in demotion to the Traffic Control Person (TCP) role, accompanied by a salary decrease. Commuting time is considered non-compensable. The employer provides equal employment opportunity to all candidates.
