Thermal Spray Operator - ARMO Tech Equipment II

Overview

Join a successful team at Baker Hughes in Doha as a Thermal Spray Operator, responsible for servicing gas turbine combustion and hot gas path parts using ABB robotic manipulators. This role involves working closely with the cell leader to ensure compliance with Baker Hughes standards and organizational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate, program, and maintain specialized thermal spray machinery as per work instructions and customer specifications.
• Prepare lab samples and validate new spray materials and processes.
• Collaborate with the cell leader to develop fixtures for new product lines.
• Perform part changeovers and execute work according to product specifications, drawings, and instructions.
• Adhere strictly to safety protocols and quality standards in all tasks.
• Conduct routine preventative maintenance on machinery and assist with general labor tasks as production demands.
• Prepare components for coating, including masking and surface prep.
• Remove overspray through blending and polishing using pneumatic grinders.
• Operate vacuum furnaces as required.
• Engage in welding, grinding, assembling, shot peening, and bucket moment weight tasks as necessary.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment and contribute to housekeeping efforts.
• Update digital shop systems including digital work orders, time tracking, and operation completion records.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements.
• Follow all Baker Hughes policies and procedures consistently.

Candidate Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent with solid math skills (including decimals and fractions).
• Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience with coatings on gas turbine components.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and coating specifications.
• Experience operating and programming CNC machines or production robots.
• Basic knowledge of ABB Robots and IRC5 controller operation is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Basic familiarity with industrial safety standards and manufacturing equipment.
• Understanding of tool and gauge handling techniques.
• Experience programming Kawasaki robots is advantageous.
• Proficiency with Robot Studio and Metco Coating Consoles is a plus.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong problem-solving skills and capability to learn quickly.
• Excellent teamwork abilities and flexibility in working hours.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
• Experience with overhead crane operations.
