Job description

About Halter

Halter is dedicated to empowering farmers and graziers to operate highly productive and sustainable agricultural enterprises. Using innovative smart collars, Halter enables farmers to shift, monitor, and care for cattle without traditional constraints like quad bikes, dogs, or fences. Our technology is revolutionizing grazing practices, improving lives, and transforming the industry. Our team thrives on solving complex problems in a high-performance culture backed by top-tier investors such as Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Rocket Lab's Peter Beck.

About The Role

We’re building not just software but a new way of farming through a private IoT network powered by smart collars. The Technical Specialist - Network will serve as the first responder to network and connectivity issues, filtering and resolving problems before escalating to the Network team. This role is part of the Customer Experience (CX) team and aims to enhance the T2 team’s problem-solving capabilities while ensuring rapid resolution and minimizing disruption to deeper engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and triage network communication issues escalated from the Tier 2 support team and escalate deeper engineering problems when necessary.
  • Create and maintain internal tools such as dashboards, playbooks, and monitors to streamline the triage process and enhance visibility on communications tickets.
  • Diagnose on-farm connectivity problems and relay actionable insights to the Network team to improve system coverage and performance.
  • Collaborate closely with Network and Fleet teams to detect patterns, preempt issues, and increase the efficacy of first-line resolutions.
  • Coach and upskill the T2 team to independently diagnose and fix more network-related issues, reducing escalations.
  • Identify repeat problem areas and develop long-term solutions via tool, process, or network improvements.
  • Track and report key metrics including ticket volume, resolution times, device uptime, and signal quality.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to support incident responses and ensure continuous network uptime across farms.
  • Act as a liaison between Support, Product, and field teams, ensuring clear communication and translating technical issues into actionable improvements.
  • Conduct on-site farm investigations when remote analysis is insufficient, validating hardware, animal behavior, and environmental factors.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years in a customer-facing role, preferably in technical support or related fields, demonstrating a strong commitment to customer care and technical curiosity. Key traits and qualifications include:

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical problems and translate customer issues effectively.
  • A systems-thinking mindset comfortable with networking, connectivity, or distributed systems concepts, with eagerness to learn more.
  • Proficiency or interest in building tools such as dashboards and playbooks to aid in technical triage.
  • Experience collaborating across multiple teams to expedite issue resolution.
  • Strong pride in documentation, process clarity, and continuous improvement practices.
  • An obsession with achieving the best customer outcomes beyond simple ticket closure.
  • Adept at serving as a communication bridge among Support, Product, and field teams to ensure complete context retention.
  • A proactive approach focusing on customer well-being rather than reactive ticket handling.

Preferred but not required:

  • Hands-on experience in technical support involving network connectivity or IoT products.
  • Familiarity with agri-tech, IoT, or hardware-enabled product domains.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn dashboarding and query tools like Grafana, Metabase, or Athena.
